About Center for Pet Safety
Since 2011

Protecting Pets & Their People

Center for Pet Safety (CPS) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit safety science and consumer advocacy organization dedicated to protecting companion animals and the people who love them. As the independent voice for pet owners, we advance pet safety through evidence-based research, testing, and education.

CPS evaluates pet products and travel conditions, develops industry-leading safety standards and test protocols, and reviews testing practices and regulations to reduce risk for pets, families, and retailers. Our work strengthens consumer trust and drives accountability across the marketplace.

Through partnerships with universities and mission-aligned sponsors, CPS accelerates pet safety innovation, supports STEM education, and leads national awareness campaigns that deliver measurable safety improvements. We provide trusted education, investigate product complaints, and operate the CPS Certified™ Program – while remaining fully independent. We do not use live animals in testing, are not affiliated with the pet products industry, and do not endorse products.

Who We Are

The Bond That Built CPS

Lindsey Wolko & Maggie, the inspiration for CPS.

Lindsey Wolko

Founder & CEO

Lindsey Wolko founded Center for Pet Safety (CPS) in 2011 with one guiding principle: pet products must be proven safe — not just marketed as safe. That conviction began when her dog Maggie was injured by a harness that failed in a sudden stop, revealing what most families never see – an unregulated industry where safety claims go unchecked. Her experience led to the founding of CPS in 2011 and a national movement for independent oversight.

Our work has since earned global recognition, with features across ABC World News Tonight, The Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Wired, and more – reflecting both the urgency of the problem and the credibility of our solutions.
